Boston Metro, Massachusetts

Melrose Care Center, Melrose

Melrose Care Center is a 106 bed skilled nursing facility dedicated to the long and short-term needs of their residents. The Care Center is looking for animal-assisted activity visits, one or two times per month on a consistent basis.

Walnut Street Center, Somerville

The Walnut Street Center, is a nonprofit, human service agency that provides comprehensive support services to adults who have developmental disabilities and their families. The agency was founded in 1970 by parents who wanted supports for their children, and other adults who had similar needs, in their community. Since then the Walnut Street Center has further expanded their services to help benefit this aging population by opening a Day Habilitation program. The Day Habilitation program offers adults who have developmental disabilities (such as cerebral palsy, Alzheimer's disease, legal blindness) intensive medical, behavioral and therapeutic services, in order to enhance their quality of life. The Day Hab is looking for animal-assisted activity visits two time per month on a consistent basis. Our hours are 9am to 3pm. There are also medically intensive residences and Alzheimer's Disease residences that would greatly benefit from evening visits (4pm onwards).

Supportive Living Program at the Frank J. Manning Apartments, Cambridge

The Supportive Living Program in the Frank J. Manning Apartments is an innovative program which offers enhanced services to the elderly and disabled residents of state funded housing to support their ability to live independently for as long as possible. Unlike other State Home Care programs, residents are able to access services through on site staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The SLP program is looking for animal-assisted activity visits, one or two times per month on a consistent basis.

Drop-in Center, Cambridge

The Cambridge Drop-In Center is a members only program located in a rented space of the Hope Fellowship Baptist Church at 16 Beech St. in Cambridge Ma. (located just outside Davis Square). The Drop-In Center has been in existence for 25 years, this location for 20 years. The Center is staffed by clinicians and mental health workers of various disciplines who also work at the Dept. of Outpatient Psychiatricy of the Cambridge Health Alliance. Our Funding is provided by various sources such as North Charles Mental, The Mass Department of Mental Health and private benefactors and donations.

Our clients are adults with chronic major mental illness who live in the surrounding communities in private or supported housing. We try to provide a fun, safe comfortable place for our clients to drop in for some socialization or for a special event such as a lunch program, art group, health group and occasional trips into the community to places like Drumlin Farm and the Topsfield Fair. With the help of programs like Pet Partners we hope for many more opportunities to continue this goal. Our members are socially limited due to their illness and income who love animals of all kinds but aren't able to own and care for there many needs. They would tremendously enjoy the interaction with animals. The Drop-in Center's hours are Monday from 1:30-5:00pm, Tuesday from 12:30-4:30pm and Friday from 1:00-4:00pm.

Chetwynde Health and Rehabilitation Center, West Newton

Chetwynde Health and Rehabilitation Center, located in West Newton, is a 75 bed nursing facility specializing in long term, short term, and respite care. Chetwynde is conviently located at 1650 Washington Street (Rt 16), at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue (Rt 30).

Our residents adore animals...some of them actually prefer petting a fuzzy friend rather than talking with people! We are interested in developing more relationships with pets and their owners, providing. We are very flexible with scheduling; some of our volunteers come in weekly, while others come in monthly.

Ashland Farm at North Andover

Ashland Farm is the premier assisted living community in the Merrimack Valley offering traditional assisted living as well as the Harbor Program for the memory impaired. Ashland Farm provides residents with personalized service plans tailored to meet their unique needs. Ashland Farm is looking for animal-assisted activity visits, two times per month on a consistent basis.

Hospice of the North Shore, Danvers

Hospice of the North Shore, Serving Essex County

The largest and most comprehensive hospice program in Massachusetts, Hospice of the North Shore (HNS) enriches the lives of those affected by terminal or life-limiting illness, death and loss by providing compassionate care, support, consultation and education. Serving 44 communities across the North Shore and all of Essex County, HNS offers services including expert pain and symptom management and grief support. A not-for-profit organization founded in 1978, HNS provides care to patients in homes, assisted living and long-term care facilities, hospitals, and now its Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, the first inpatient hospice facility in Massachusetts and the only hospice house on the North Shore.

Community Health and Alternative Opportunity Services (CHAOS), Beverly

The Animal Assisted Therapy Program through Community Health and Alternative Opportunity Services (CHAOS) brings together therapy animals/handlers with a variety of populations to maximize the therapeutic experience. Some of the populations we work with include children at risk, the elderly and people with a history of mental illness. Our role is to collaborate with program staff to establish goals and to support the pet partner team in achieving those goals. We are currently planning to implement our services at programs in the following towns: Beverly, Haverhill, Ipswich, Woburn, Medford and Lawrence.

Care Alternatives Hospice, serving Middlesex County

Care Alternatives Hospice is a private organization that delivers holistic end of life palliative care to terminally ill patients and their families. Care Alternatives is committed to guiding, supporting and assisting the terminally ill and their loved ones by delivering care that meets the needs of mind, body and spirit. Care Alternatives philosophy views holistic therapies, such as pet therapy, as essential to the patient's quality of life. Pet Therapy volunteers are needed to provide visits to our hospice patients who live in skilled nursing facilities. Facilities are located in several areas in Middlesex County including Concord, Lexington, Marlborough, Northborough, Sudbury and the surrounding areas. Pet Therapy volunteers can be assigned to patients in nursing facilities that are convenient to their home. The time requirement is 1-3 hours per week.

Fidelity House Human Services, serving Merrimack Valley

Fidelity House Human Services, founded in 1971, provides information, services and choices to individuals with disabilities and their families in Massachusetts' Merrimack Valley. Fidelity House strives to support the choices and meet the needs of the people it serves through a portfolio of diversified offerings including residential, educational, vocational, developmental and advocacy services.

Residential Services is dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities build a better life for themselves, and is seeking Pet Partners to enrich the lives of some individuals who love animals, but have little or no opportunity to connect with them on a regular basis. Residential Services provides housing and support to individuals with disabilities 22 years of age or older. Supporting people in their homes creates a unique opportunity to have a profound influence on their quality of life.

Hogan Regional Center, Danvers

Hogan Regional Center is a residential facility in the Northeast Region of the Department of Mental Retardation (DMR). DMR is dedicated to creating, in partnership with others, innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with mental retardation to participate fully and meaningfully in, and contribute to, their communities as valued members. Four Hathorne Circle is one of the residential buildings at Hogan Regional Center. It provides a home for approximately 74 individuals in eight apartments. The individuals encompass have a wide range of medical and behavioral needs as well as functional and communication skills. Four Hathorne Circle is looking for opportunities of animal assisted activity on a consistent basis.

Glen Haven Academy, Marlborough

The Glenhaven Academy for adolescent girls, the most recent campus added to the Meadowridge Schools, was established in 2001 as part of an ongoing commitment to developing state-of-the-art treatment approaches for difficult-to-serve or under-served populations. The program focuses on the special challenges of adolescent girls, from the ages of 12-20, with emotional and behavioral disturbances. Glen Haven Academy provides 24 hr round the clock care from our residential staff. Animal visitation groups consist of no more than 6 girls, with one teacher and one residential staff member.

We are looking for volunteers who would like to stop by one or two evenings per week. The hours would be Monday-Thursday, evenings between 4-7PM and/or Saturday mid-morning (11:00AM). The girls would love to just brush and play with the dogs.

Berkshire Health Systems is the primary provider of healthcare services to residents of and visitors to Berkshire County and neighboring communities. A critical component of Berkshire Health Systems is found in the dedicated work of those who volunteer their time and efforts to help others each and every day. The Berkshire Medical Center has it's own base of Delta Society Pet Partner volunteers and an established animal-assisted activity program providing Pet Partner trainings, evaluations and on-site support.

New Hampshire & Maine

Home Health & Hospice Care, Merrimack

Home Health & Hospice Care integrates a Pet Partner visitation program as part of the volunteer services it provides to hospice and homecare clients throughout southern NH and northern MA. Delta Society Pet Partner volunteers provide friendly visits in patient homes, in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and in the agency's Community Hospice House. They also participate in bereavement support, special events, and agency fundraisers. You can give this life-enhancing support in 1-4 hours per week, at your convenience, and no medical experience is required. The agency provides a free hospice volunteer training course.

Home Health & Hospice Care has its own Delta Society Pet Partner affiliate group called Leash on Life of Southern New Hampshire. They have an established animal-assisted activity program providing Pet Partner trainings, evaluations and on-site support.
